From our Active Chapter

Dear Alumni Brother:

The Zeta Iota Chapter of Sigma Chi, in partnership with Children’s Miracle Network, is proud to announce that we will be hosting our annual philanthropic event, Derby Days, the week of March 30th- April 5th.
As you all know, Derby Days is a national, week-long philanthropic event hosted by the Sigma Chi Fraternity. For our Zeta Iota Chapter here at Pittsburg State University, Derby Days is the defining moment of our Spring Semester: a week full of exciting events and sorority competition, all to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network. We are always working to make Derby Days as special and successful as possible. Most importantly, it’s for the kids.

The mission of Derby Days is easily stated: to serve the community. Since the birth of our Fraternity, Sigma Chis have endeavored to give back to our world and our local communities. Because Derby Days affords each chapter the unique opportunity to positively impact the community, it has been the most publicized and visible way for chapters to serve others. Our chapter takes pride in serving local children through donating to Children’s Miracle Network.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals doors have been open for 30 years now. Since 1983, the organization has raised more than $4.7 billion—most of it $1 at a time—for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada, which, in turn, use the money where it’s needed the most. These donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all in support of the mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. Your donation goes directly into this pool, 100% of the money our chapter raises through Derby Days goes directly to Children’s Miracle Network.

2014 marks the 50th year anniversary of the chartering of our Sigma Chi chapter here at PSU. We are incredibly proud of our 50 years of service at Pittsburg State University and within the local community, and we recognize the current opportunity our chapter has on this special anniversary year to make a difference like never before. We want this Derby Days to be the best one to date and we need your help as our alumni to make this happen.

Right now there’s a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital working to save the lives of children. In fact, 62 children enter a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital for treatment every minute — that’s one child every second. Some are battling cancer. Some are suffering from a traumatic injury. Others require constant care because they were born too early, or with a genetic disease. Regardless of why the kids are there, 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals always have their doors open. We are honored to have such a special relationship with the hospital in Joplin. Every year we have children come during Derby Week to tell their stories and to thank us for everything we do in helping support the hospital that helped them so much.

As you know, in the past two years alone, our Derby Days has raised nearly $50,000, making us the most successful Greek organization on campus and in the state of Kansas in philanthropic donations. All of this money has been donated to our local Children’s Miracle Network hospital in Joplin. It truly is an amazing feeling giving back, especially to these kids. We challenge you to help their cause and donate today, any amount helps. Know that 100% of your donation will be going directly to Children’s Miracle Network and to helping a child in your local community.

If you would like to help in any way, whether it is participation or support of the events or donations to the fundraiser, please use the contact information below. Please send donations to 406 Ohio St. Pittsburg, KS 66762. All donations are tax-deductible and will be accepted up until April 5th.

Alumni Brothers, we thank you.
